Vaikuntha Ekadasi

As per Vishnu Purana, fasting on Vaikunta Ekadashi is equivalent to fasting on the remaining 23 Ekadashis of the (Hindu) year.

Lord Shri Mahavishnu opened the gate of Vaikuntam (his abode) for two demons in spite of they being against the Lord. They also asked for the boon that who ever listens to their story and see the image of Lord coming out of the door (called Dwar) called Vaikunth Dwar they reach Vaikunth as well! Temples all over the India makes a door kind of structure on this day for devotees to pass through that.

According to Padma Purana, the female energy of Lord Vishnu slains demon Muran in the form of a damsel and protects `Devas'. Impressed by the act, Lord Vishnu names her as `Ekadashi' and gives her the boon that those who worship `Ekadashi' on the day of her victory over Muran would reach `Vaikunth' (His abode).

In Mahabarata, Bhagavad Gita - the conversation between Lord Krishna and Arjuna at the beginning of Kurukshetra War is said to have occurred on this day.
People should indulge in meditation, Japa and singing of Hari Kirtan. Rice is avoided during ekadashi days as it is believed that the demon Mura finds a dwelling in the rice eaten on Ekadasi day.
Vaikunta Ekadashi is the Ekadashi that occurs in the Hindu calendar month of Margh Margashira (corresponding to late December - January in English calendar.)
This year Vaikuntha Ekadasi is on 7 January 2009.

Rahu-Ketu The nodes of infinity

Ohm Gam Ganpatye Namah:!
I am offering this post to Lord GANESHA as a humble offering .I am only a mortal human being blessed by him to be able to add few drops to vast ocean.I am subject to all doshas and he is the one who shows the way.

The body of humans conatin Rahu at Muladharchakra(The nervous perplex in the lower part of abdominal region ) and Ketu at SHASTRADHAR (the nervous perplex at the apex of head). The whole body is powered between two node Rahu and Ketu.
The astrology also talks of two nodes Rahu and Ketu and the predictions also range between positions of two.
Adiguru Shankracharya said every thing comes from infinity and goes to infinity .Rahu and Ketu respresent the entry and exit of infinity . They cannot be measurable but they effect everything.
Lord Ganesha the headless god with head of elephant so the upper part is rahu and the lower part whcih is not having own head us ketu. The vighnharta prathampujya himself is the having the infinite nodes that is why he is worshiped first before any ritual.
Why they are so dreaded in Jyotish?
There is nothing to be feared about.Rahu represnts the head that is gyan and ketu represent the selfego, self consciousness of body. When on other end their placement has resulted in yogi like Shri Ramkrishna Paramhansa and at the other end person like Hitler. So what happens when ego combines with gyan it reults in aham (self ego) of false assumption that i am omipresent and ominipotent which leads to destruction whereas when gyan combines with selfconsciuosness it goes beyond medha (intellignece )and become pragya (the supreme knowledge of self). We the ordinary mortal fall in between so are torn apart by illusions. The illusion of self , the illusion of money ,the illusion of lust ,the illusion of power so we are the sufferers ..
